Austin Junction, OR to Vale, OR
Today was the best day to date. I did 4 passes (4506, 5109, 4623, 3981) and 86 miles. Plus I had a tail wind when I got down to the plains and was cruising at 22mph for a while. I raced some thunderstorms and won. And now I’m only about 24 miles from Idaho. Plus I hit mountain time. (The time change was right before the third pass so 500ft took 1 hour) The easy day yesterday really helped me feel good enough to do the mileage today.
On the road today I met two girls who were headed to Astoria, OR from VA and they had taken the lower Idaho route. They said that the northern passes out of Yellowstone were closed above 7000ft because they got around 10 inches of snow. They further encouraged me that the southern Idaho route was the correct one to take. I just hope that the snow melts before I get there.
