Port2Port Day 8

John Day, OR to Austin Junction, OR

So I did end up riding with Carloine and Wills today. We left the hotel right at check out (11am) taking full advantage of the real beds, the real towels, and the real shower. I could only sleep until about 8am and spent the rest of the morning debating the route I would take after today and how many showers I should take.
The ride today was easy and short. We had one pass to go over, which ended up not being all that bad. The map said it was 5279ft and I felt jipped that I didn’t get the full mile. At the top we met another set of cyclists who sold everything in Florida and decided to move to San Franciso using their bikes to get there. They told me that Hwy26 in Oregon was very nice from there and starts to flatten out, but that southern Idaho was tough to get around in by bicycle. That encouraged me to reconsider my previous plan to go up north to Missoula, MO
When we got to Austin Junction we were greeted by a cyclist who was already setting up camp. It turned to be Lee who had passed me outside of Prineville when I had a flat. She is doing a huge loop around the northwest up into Canada and back down to Idaho.
Overall it was a pretty restful day.
