Portland, OR to (a few miles past) Government Camp, OR
So I got of to a little later start than I had hoped, I set my alarm for pm instead of am…. I don’t really have anything to say about the ride today except I hope this elevation training pays off. Today was a steady climb up the base of Mt Hood. I have pictures to prove it.
The most interesting part of the day was riding around Government Camp, OR. I didn’t think places like that actually existed. It was a ski resort community. There were several snowboard compaines and a number of camps/resorts dedicated to snowboarding. I overheard that Mt Hood is the only mountain in the US that has summer skiing. I don’t know if that’s true, but I’d believe it. The town was full of stereotypical snowboarders. It was surprising to say the least.
I left Government Camp looking for a place to sleep that didn’t charge resort prices and ended up stealthing near Frog Lake Forest. It turned out to be a popular place for semi-truckers to check their trailers before heading down the long steep road. Needless to say I didn’t sleep very well.
